D.O. on the rampage in Tiko

The time for restoring the State of former British Southern Cameroons was 1972, when a new constitution replaced the federation with a unitary state called the "United Republic of Cameroon". Whatever the Germans, the French and the British did to the minds of our people in the past, it remains clear that the two former colonies, French Cameroun and British Southern Cameroons, approach civilized public discourse differently.

The people have the power. The D.O. (divisional officer) has no power without the people. Remember the "ghost towns"? Let the D.O. welcome the beer by himself.

You become strong when there is no other option. Again, the only power s/he has is (I say it again) over the people s/he can see (and bully). The best answer to a fool is to walk away. My people should have walked away in 1972. Now the children have to learn the hard way: how to walk away.

Yes, brother. The only reason Biya and his friends are dragging all Camerouneses through the mud is that most of the population is IGNORANT of the truth. Add enough food, beer, football and pinguisse, and your brain is put to sleep. Unless you step out of Cameroun, it is hard for anyone to tell you that you are being led by the nose, or that if you stood up straight, you could send Biya and his gang out of office in a few hours.

The issue is people knowing (and owning) the truth. It is not a matter of guns and bombs. It is just the man or woman on the street being conscious of the truth about themselves: what it WAS, what it is, what it WILL BE. I know you understand.

@Fuayeh: it is true that, compared with other nations, we are young. But if our people, our children (the future), do not have a world-class education, we cannot compare with those other countries. What I mean is this. Nigeria, for example, set up its own currency, its own central bank, its own stock market. But you don't do these things by calling in foreigners to run them. You need your own citizens well educated and trained in the tricks of the trade at a world-class level, or else you will always depend on assistance technique, as they call it.

If you only have a "oui, m'sieu" type of education, your brain will forever stay stunted and lacking in originality. Other people and countries have given their citizens sky-high opportunities, sometimes with good results, sometimes with questionable ones. But I will not trade a world-class education for a "oui, m'sieu" intellectual lockdown.

Good opinion piece. Share widely.

Without people, where can you exercise power? In your bedroom. Once people are completely aware of how much power they have to accept or refuse being pushed around, things will change. It takes organizing, in any way possible: even two people who agree on one good thing is POWER. As the number grows, power grows geometrically, and the pretend leadership will fall like a house of cards.

If you wait for other people to define you, they will. If you don't give yourself a name, someone else will, and you might not like it. If you keep wishing for a bone, it might never drop from the table. If you go out and hunt, you have a better chance of being the one giving a bone to someone else.

Sadness never built a house. Business did. We cannot afford to sit sad and do nothing. What will happen to the children we are raising? Grow up in our sadness? It does not have to be that way.
