I hear names like North West and South West, and I ask myself: "north-west of where?" or "south-west of where?"

When you give birth to a child, do you wait for some stranger to come and name it? Seriously, when you fill out your son's or daughter's birth certificate, are you going to write "NorthWesterner" or "SouthWesterner"? And if your child later went somewhere else in the world to study or do business, how would they introduce themselves: "Sam Paty, SouthWesterner"? "Nic Atum, NorthWesterner"?
