Resolution 1608 (XV)

UN General Assembly Resolution 1608 (XV), 21 April 1961, "The future of the Trust Territory of the Cameroons under United Kingdom administration", decided that the trusteeship would end for Southern Cameroons on 1 October 1961, "upon its joining the Republic of Cameroun". It invited the Administering Authority, the Government of the Southern Cameroons and the Republic of Cameroun "to initiate urgent discussions with a view to finalizing, before 1 October 1961, the arrangements by which the agreed and declared policies of the parties concerned will be implemented."

Artefacts of a convoluted system. In the Camerounese socio-cultural dispensation, a separate English-language channel has been vehemently refused to this day, in favour of a convoluted "bilingual news" broadcast that makes no sense. Nowhere else in the world does a national TV news broadcast have presenters playing ping-pong from one foreign language to the other in the same time slot. It is a contraption for obscuring information: a sort of psycho-medical perfusion of confusion, delivered in daily doses to an unsuspecting audience. You can see the results just by observing and listening to the Camerounese MOTS (man or woman on the street). The botched anthem is a case in point. The children are watching… and learning.

Take the State of former British Southern Cameroons out of the République du Cameroun algebra, and the equation solves itself.

The truth has a stubborn resilience that defies time.

Solving CPDM or SDF problems is not necessarily solving the gorilla-in-the-room problem: ending the annexation and recolonization of a state which, according to the books at the UN, is NOT united with the République du Cameroun. It seems really hard to get citizens to understand and own this truth. 50+ years of living a lie can change one's DNA. Unless… you have a passion for truth.

Nations are not run on talk alone, but on treaties, constitutions and documented events. Why is it taking so long? Principally because the State of former British Southern Cameroons will be restored through non-violence (just as it was created in the first place).

Expediency and due diligence are vectors that do not cross each other, even if each is useful at some times and not at others. Pomp and pageantry do not erase records, especially a record that does not exist: a UN-certified union between what you call "former Southern Cameroons" and the "République du Cameroun". That is the big gorilla in the room. How is a celebration going to get rid of this gorilla? You tell me.
